How to Get Started in the Modeling Industry

I was inspired to write this article on breaking into the modeling world of the entertainment business because of my friend’s quest to make it in the industry of high fashion modeling. Anyone who has tried to make it in any area of the entertainment field knows just how difficult it is to get the information that you need to land the job you want. . The same is true for modeling. I have a friend who is 14 years old, 5’9’’, and slim with exotic facial features. (I know… lucky right!) She is trying to make it in the world of high fashion modeling and was unsure of where to start. She went to a local “agency” that is also an “school” and they tried to charge 5,000 dollars for a series of classes that would get her whisked away into the world of modeling. Yes… I said it 5,000 dollars!!! Luckily, she and her mom decided not to follow through with it. It is because of situations like this that I decided to make a guide for all the future Tyra Banks and Heidi Klums of the world.
First, you need good quality pictures. No, you do not need to spend a fortune on pictures initially. Just make sure you take around one hundred pictures so you can choose six really clear pictures to show to agents. You need at least three shots that show your face very well (headshots). One of these can be a 2/3 shot that shows you from the waist up. The others should be full body shots. For more on preparing your photos for submission, go here.
Second, scout out the agencies. It would be a good idea to join a local agency first to get your feet wet. You can find a local agency by doing a Google search by putting keywords “modeling agency” and your city or your closest major city. Be careful about agencies that want to charge you to be a part of the “agency”.  It is ok to take classes to build skills and confidence, but a true agency will not require you to pay for classes or photos. If they want you, they will take care of everything. You will probably reimburse them from money earned from your first job or two and that’s ok. There is a difference between a modeling school and an agency. Agencies get you work. If you are ready to take a leap with one of the major agencies, click the link for listings.
Last but not least, the reality of the situation is if you are not 5’7(and that’s pushing it) or taller, under 20 or close to it, and thin with good skin and features you probably won’t make it in high fashion. However, there is a huge world of modeling including promotional, print, petite, female fitness or male fitness, etc. that you can be involved in and make money even if you don’t fit those physical requirements. To get more information on various types of modeling go here. The amount of money you will get paid for modeling varies depending on the type of job you do. To get information on how much you can expect to get paid, go here.
Remember that whatever type of modeling you do you should always be professional. Make sure you are on time and prepared. Always go to auditions prepared with neutral colored underwear and a pair of heels (ladies of course). Keep up your appearance. Take care of your skin and your body. Don’t forget to wear a smile. Good Luck!

Although there are other independent labels in the Las Vegas area, these companies do not have a strong focus on artist development. We will focus on selling CDs and digital downloads or the artists on the label. For more information go to www.drivenmusicgroup.com .

Urban Classical

If you don't already know, I am founder of Driven Music Group, LLC. We are leading the music industry with the new sound of urban classical. What is urban classical you ask? Its a mixture of Pop, R and B or Hip Hop with classical instrmentation. The artists themselves play live instruments to add to the excitement of this new genre. The premier artist on the label is Triece... yep that's my alter ego- hahaha! I'm a classically trained violinest and I love to mix it up and sing R&B music. I decided to put it all together for the new sound called urban classical. Take a listen at www.triece.com. Tell me what you think!!!

I should just tell you a little about me and what I like so you'll know who you're blogging. I'm a twin.Petra is my twin sister. Her picture is posted. I sing, model, play violin, and dance. I usually have two or three jobs at a time. I have my degree from the University of MIchigan, Ann Arbor. I went back to school to get a teaching certificate and double major in English and Spanish. Love to work out which is important cause I love to eat!  I taught for  a few years, but I'm not teaching right now. I'm just hustling work in Las Vegas...singing, modeling etc. I'm back in school getting a Masters in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University and I love it! Ohh! You have to see my little puppy Teddy Bear. He's my baby! He's technically not a puppy because he is four years old, but he's still a puppy to me:-)Check his picture out in the photos section. I'll probablly post all kinds of random posts in the months to come:-) Enjoy!
